Nest Thermostat Arrives at Bethesda Systems

BETHESDA, Md. – July 9, 2013 –Bethesda Systems, a nationally recognized technology integration firm, is proud to now offer its clients the award-winning Nest® Learning ThermostatTM.

The perfect thermostat for any application, the Nest Learning Thermostat is compatible with 95 percent of today’s low-voltage heating and cooling systems. The intuitive Nest Learning Thermostat is a great solution for homeowners who want the benefit of an energy-saving thermostat and convenience of remote access to their home heating and cooling systems.

“Heating and cooling account for almost half of a homeowners monthly energy expenses,” says Mike Wilson, owner of Bethesda Systems. “Nest can make an instant difference by learning a homeowner’s preferences and lifestyle, and make adjustments within the home that will significantly reduce energy consumption.”

Nest Learning Thermostats “learn” by monitoring the activity of the homeowner and the home, and automatically adjust the temperature when they are away. Utilizing Wi-Fi connectivity, the thermostat monitors outside conditions to adjust internal settings accordingly. The Nest thermostat guides the homeowner to energy-efficient temperatures when the homeowner is away and frees them of programming hassles by creating personal temperatures schedules.

The system has the added benefit of being able to be controlled and accessed anywhere using a smartphone or tablet, including iOS and Android devices.

Since its launch, Nest has earned rave reviews and awards – from Good Housekeeping’s VIP Award to CNET’s coveted five-star rating.

Bethesda Systems Helps Consumers Trim Electric Bills with Introduction of The LED Diet

***FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY! Bethesda Systems will include one FREE SWITCH60 LED bulb upon sign-up for one of our LED Diet services. A $50 value, the SWITCH60 comes in two finishes, frosted or clear, and both come with a FREE lifetime warranty. LED Diet Powered by Bethesda SystemsNew in-home consultation service helps homeowners transition to energy efficient LED lighting solutions

BETHESDA, Md. – July 12, 2013 – Bethesda Systems, a nationally recognized technology integration firm, is proud to introduce “The LED Diet,” a new suite of in-home services designed to help homeowners replace their burnt out or energy guzzling incandescent light bulbs with high-performance, energy saving LEDs.

LEDs (light-emitting diodes) represent one of today’s most energy efficient and rapidly developing new technologies. The very best LED bulbs offer superior lighting quality compared to other types of lighting, give off less heat than incandescent and CFL bulbs, and can last up to 20 years, saving homeowners significant time and money they would otherwise spend buying and replacing light bulbs several times a year. LED bulbs use up to 80% less energy than traditional lighting, resulting in lower monthly energy bills.

Due to the federally mandated “phase out” of traditional incandescent light bulbs, 100-watt incandescents are no longer being produced, 75-watt bulbs will be phased out by the end of this year and 60-watt bulbs will no longer be manufactured by the end of 2014. As a result, consumers are growing frustrated trying to find suitable bulb replacements for their homes.

Instead of simply swapping out a 100-watt bulb for another 100-watt bulb, homeowners are now confronted with a barrage of new lighting choices and terminologies (beam spread, color temperature, lumens, CRI, etc.), which make finding the right LED replacement for inefficient bulbs in their homes a daunting task.

To further complicate the bulb replacement buying process, there are wide discrepancies in LED color quality and durability, and many of the better-quality LED brands are not sold at local home stores.

“For over a decade, our customers have trusted us to simplify their lives with home entertainment and home automation solutions,” says Mike Wilson, owner of Bethesda Systems. “Now, we can do the same with LED lighting—cut through the confusion to help them choose the best lighting options for every application in their homes.”

Bethesda Systems eases the process of transitioning to LED lighting with the simple LED Diet, offering a range of service packages. Each option helps pay for itself with lower monthly energy bills.

Named after the common household request of asking a partner to assist in chores, the “Honey-Do” service allows homeowners to ease into LED lighting at their own pace by replacing incandescent bulbs as they burn out. The process begins with an in-home walk-through of the property by one of Bethesda Systems’ skilled LED Dietitians. At that time, the lighting expert will identify burnt-out bulbs and areas of the home that would benefit from high performance LED lighting.

Once the property evaluation is complete, the homeowner can apply the initial assessment fee of $29.95 towards the purchase of the recommended LED bulbs, which are installed upon purchase. Bethesda Systems’ LED Dietitians will ensure proper functionality with dimmers or electronic systems (where applicable).

If homeowners are unhappy with a particular bulb, they can replace it or return it for a refund within the first 90 days of initial installment.

For homeowners who are ready to upgrade their lighting and shed as much money as possible off their monthly electric bills, Bethesda Systems offers the “All-In” service. Like the Honey-Do service, the All-In service starts with an on-site consultation to identify all areas of the home that can be upgraded to LED lighting, demonstrating various options and reviewing costs.

Following the initial evaluation, the LED Dietitian will install the LED bulbs throughout the entire property. Homeowners can feel comfortable knowing they have the right lighting for every area in their house–while saving money and enjoying a more eco-friendly lifestyle.

Bethesda Systems believes that once customers see the benefits of LED lights, they will want to own them. Designed to showcase the latest innovations in LED bulb technology, the “LED-of-the-Month” service delivers a new, state-of-the-art LED bulb to the homeowner’s door each month. If they like it, they can order more at reduced volume pricing.

Bethesda Systems Wins Two Electronic House Magazine Home of the Year Awards

Bethesda technology integration firm wins awards in “Best Home Theater” and “Best Master Suite” categories

BETHESDA, Md. – May 9, 2013 – Bethesda Systems, a nationally recognized top-100 technology integration firm, was recently named the winner of two prestigious technology design and installation “Home of the Year Awards” by EH Publishing and Electronic House magazine.

Integration firms from all over North America entered homes and projects into the annual awards competition, which drew Gold, Silver and Bronze winners in 13 different categories. Winners were carefully selected by the Electronic House editorial and art staffs based on all aspects involved in an installation, such as project creativity, innovation, equipment incorporated, obstacles overcome, homeowner priorities met, aesthetics and lifestyle benefits.

“Each year, our Home of the Year Awards competition lets us see the most innovative and creative ways that custom electronics professionals have infused homes with today’s technology, and this year’s entries did not disappoint,” says Electronic House editor Arlen Schweiger.

“We are honored to be recognized by Electronic House magazine for our work on these two projects,” said Michael Wilson, owner of Bethesda Systems. “This recognition is a testament to our dedicated staff’s commitment to provide our customers the best in design, installation and service.”

Bethesda Systems earned Electronic House‘s Silver Award in the category of “Best Home Theater: $25,000 to $75,000” for an impressive installation that perfectly incorporated a 20-foot-wide projection screen into a modern living room to create a functional, family-friendly multipurpose home entertainment area.

To complete the home theater experience, Bethesda Systems equipped the homeowners with an Apple-based home control system from Savant, which allows the family to easily control the entertainment system and various combinations of lighting that include recessed lights, sconces, step lights, lamps and cove lights. Full details of the project can be found at

Bethesda Systems also received a Bronze Award in the category of “Best Master Suite” for a project that required the integration firm to design and install a true home theater experience in a homeowner’s bedroom. The award-winning project included the installation of a 96-inch drop down projection screen, hidden video projector, a 46-inch flat panel television and 5.1-channel surround-sound system—all incorporated perfectly into the master bedroom.

A Control4 control system serves as the bedroom’s “brains”, and offers multiple viewing options including: watch TV, watch Movie, switch from TV to Movie, and switch from Movie to TV. The system also allows the owner to select content accordingly (like cable for TV or Blu-ray for Movie), prep the room’s lights and shades and smoothly transition the associated audio to avoid any disturbance such as sound abruptly clipping on and off when the owner moves from the TV to the projection screen. Full details of the project can be found at

Bethesda Systems to Sell High-Quality, Energy-Efficient Lighting

With new regulations phasing out incandescent light bulbs across the United States, Jonathan Stovall, co-founder of Bethesda Systems, felt it would best to begin serving both current and future clients with the highest quality and most energy efficient lighting products available.

The high-quality lighting solution Bethesda Systems trusts is that of LEDs, and at the start of the New Year, Bethesda Systems officially added high-quality, energy efficient lighting products to their inventory.

Bethesda Systems will now be able to more easily perform LED retrofits for residences and commercial properties throughout the Washington, D.C. area, in addition to their high-quality integration services.

LED stands for light-emitting diode. These are small light sources that work when the movements of electrons illuminate semiconductor material. LED light bulbs last 50,000 hours on average, whereas incandescent bulbs last around 1,000 hours, and CFL bulbs last around 8,000 hours.

In addition to this, LEDs also produce better quality light. In the past, there was skepticism in regards to LED performance: whether it could dim, and what color light it gave off. While CFLs seem to be the easy go-to option for purchasing more efficient lighting, CFLs lack the quality LEDs have.

In recent years, LED manufacturers have made immense progress in improving the LED to make it not only a good incandescent alternative, but also a competitive choice.

From 2009 to 2010, the LED market doubled from $5.6 billion to $10.8 billion—a 93% growth rate. By 2010, general-purpose LED lights surpassed 100 lumens per watt.

In regards to color quality, LEDs are able to maintain the warm light effect.

With advances in product quality like the WarmDim technology from lighting brand Juno, the WarmDim lighting technology, the light turns yellow as it is dimmed.

LEDs are also 100% dimmable. LED bulbs have full range capability, whereas CFL bulb range capability is limited. CFLs tend to drop out by the time the dimmer reaches 20% of light—meaning it shuts off when it isn’t supposed to.

Bethesda Systems’ first commercial LED lighting retrofit took place this past summer of 2012. The resulting work reduced the business lighting energy consumption over 80%. No longer are their lights burning out and based on current usage, but their lighting maintenance costs have been eliminated for the next 8 years.

Gary Hefner, the project leader of the bar retrofit explained, “After the retrofit, there was a major heating difference. No more halogen or incandescent bulbs were being used, allowing the bar to no longer run their air-conditioning as hard, thus allowing them to save additional energy.”
